I will update this as much as I can if anyone spots anything missing please let me know :. Did you use this instructable in your classroom? Add a Teacher Note to share how you incorporated it into your lesson. I breadboard everything before starting you can skip this step if your confident with lcd hook up etc. Mount the the AD keypad in the middle of the top of the project box I held it down with nuts and bolts and adjusted them so the buttons just sit under flush, cut slot for the sd card this doesnt have to be here.

Cut hole for LCD using a dremmel or sharp knife drill holes for nut and bolt to secure it. See Pic 3. Drill hole for momentary push button doesnt have to be on the box wherever is good for yourself Attach wires before mounting add another hole for the On off Switch and 1 more on the bottom for the DC panel mount jack.

See Pic 4. Wire everything up I ran the DC jack Positive to the switch then to the converter and the Ground strait to the Ground on the converter the arduino gets its power from the 12v input. I started by drilling holes in the project box to attach to the wood using short grabber screws 2 should be fine. I channled out the wood enough so the hole in the project box matched the channel for the wires to sit in see Pic 2 I dont have a pic of the actual channel.

I drilled 3 holes to mount the channel to the wood I countersunk them so the led strip will sit level no pics sorry.

Once again a big thank you to Michael Ross for his guide on this and the code he did all the hard work. On LED strip I had to cut 2 pixels off the strip to fit in the alloy channel so make sure in the code you change the number of pixels to suit. Setting up the pictures you can use photo shop or if you want to batch convert there is also irfanview.

You will need to set the longest edge to pixel Or how many LEDS you have and rotate the image I have included a couple of samples above.

I plan on doing a 2m one down the track this project can be used for 2m but the power draw will get up there so maybe look at a higher amp converter and adjust the strip- length in the code. I recently doubled the length of my display stick to pixels. I'm seeing a lot of vertical lines in the photos where I didn't with the pixel version. The speed issue may be a limitation of the Mega.

I was excited to add more pixels, but right now, I'm inclined to return to my smaller display. We are a strong Community of developers, hackers, and visionaries. No, seriously, we are! Further configuration can be done via the web interface once the ESPixelStick is connected to your network. Vixen 3 and xLights are two free and open source applications I recommend looking at to get you started in sequencing.

ESPixelStick v1. Do you have any other devices on your network? It sounds like your multicast traffic is being queued on the DTIM interval which is common when devices with power management are connected like phones, laptops, tablets, etc…. With 3rd party firmware, you can force Multicast rates, but a dedicated network is recommended if you require Multicast. Can you use Unicast? The network router is only connected to the Nodemcu 1. A sorta newbie but not, am I missing something?

If not are the files available so I can get my own boards made up? I be placing a larger order after the first of the year, just not enough time left this year to work on it. The updated boards should be available around spring time.

Did you get the schematic posted? Did I miss something? What would be cool would be design the. The reason for the orientation is to get the antenna of the ESP in free space. Would it be possible to get a complete BOM for those of us that would like to do a complete scratch build? The kits have all the SMD parts pre-soldered and all the thru hole parts are provided for you to solder. Curious as to the range this unit has.

If I were to install these in arches and place them up and down my street. Say yrds. Will this need an extender on the antenna?I struggled myself earlier in the beginning, so thought of making this Instructable for beginners.

Attached images gives mapping of pins, source of images. As shown in the image, Copy the. Paste copied link into the area shown in black box in above image. Close and restart the Arduino IDE. Select the Port number at which you have connected nodeMCU. Rest of the settings can be left to default values. In my video, I have modified the sketch to blink LED faster, but you can leave as it is and just upload the sketch to ESP and there you go Thanks for sharing this.

Any help, please? But when I unplug and plug the module again, it seem to go back to its empty state What if we want to connect multiple sensors who needs 5V supply?

I can hit the web interface so I know it's online. I tried configuring xlights trying both multicast and unicastand went I send a test sequence to it, I see the sequence 's increase on the web interface but nothing happens on the pixels.

ESPixelStick Pixel Controller

I've read a reference somewhere that ground from the ESP has to be connected to something - what exactly, the negative on the pixels or the ground on the power supply? Any tips?

In the E1. Which leads to my next question. The WS really wants 5v.

Thanks for the reply. It has 3. Also, I thought that was the case about 3. No guarantees that that is what your issue is, but I've had communication issues in the past because I wasn't tying grounds to each other.

A bidirectional shifter should not be necessary because data is only going from the Huzzah to the string of pixels.

Twin flame runner come back

I am currently looking at of those pixels humming away through a color-wash-gradient sequence I am using for testing. Working great. A good reason to use a level shifter would be to protect the output of your Huzzah. Also, I looked at the link you posted to your pixels and they look suspiciously like the ones I am using from Amazon, namely they are 5Vnot 12V. A problem you will need to address is the voltage drop along the 5V wire from the driving end of the string to the other.

I just checked and after pixels my 5V had dropped to 3. I will try injecting fresh 5V via a heavier gauge wire every 50 pixels or so, depending on my final configuration. The voltage loss is pure IR drop. Oh good catch - the ones i linked to are 5v, i have the 12v kind in hand though. Is the resistor needed from the GPIO pin? I just tested the voltage from GPIO and ground, and it's less than 1v. So it's not sending the data correctly from the ESP i guess?

On a whim I tried the same connections on a 2nd string I hadn't installed in a mini tree yet I even reconnected the first one up and triple checked conncetions. So either the first one is bad or I shorted it out. Thanks for the tips guys. If the Huzzah is spitting data out of that pin then the voltage will be going up and down and unless you are using an oscilloscope, you can't really tell what the "logic high" voltage. The resistor is recommended by the ESPixel Stick designer and the Adafruit geniuses to protect the output of the processor from being destroyed if it is shorted to ground.

espixelstick esp8266

Adafruit also recommends a uf cap maybe larger, I forget to serve as a current reservoir. I have used it on my Arduino-clone NeoPixel projects but don't have one on my breadboard because the first pixel is 1' from the 10A power supply.

My suggestion is to start with one pixel and make it blink.GitHub is home to over 40 million developers working together to host and review code, manage projects, and build software together. If nothing happens, download GitHub Desktop and try again.
